About This Event: Once again, the Moose Nugget Triathlons have been selected by USAT as the Alaska State Championship events for 2023!
The Moose Nugget Triathlons offer Alaskans both Olympic distance and Sprint distance road options with an open water lake swim! With a team option as well for the Olympic distance. The Olympic event includes a 1500 meter swim, a 40 kilometer road bike and a 10 kilometer run. Minimum age to participate in the Olympic distance event is 17 (per USAT rules). The Sprint event will be approximately half of each leg distance. Minimum age to participate in the Sprint distance event is 14 (per USAT rules).
In addition to the Adult race, the Sprint event will also host the USAT High School Championship! To be eligible to sign up for the HS Champs event, participants must be currently IN high school. OR, either be entering High School (9th grade) in the fall of 2023, or have just graduated from high school in 2023.
Start order for the Olympic and Sprint events: TBD However, first wave start will be at 10:00AM.
There are $5 discounts for current 2023 Alaska Triathlon Club members, as well as any active duty or retired military participants.
Course basics: The swim and T-1 will be in/at Little Campbell Lake. The bike will involve one or two laps of roads; Raspberry out to Kincaid, Raspberry back out to Sand Lake Rd, right on Kincaid Rd, left on Jodhpur Rd, left on Dimond, left on Sand Lake Rd, left on Raspberry (once for Sprint, twice for Olympic) finishing bike leg and entering T-2 in the lower stadium parking lot. The run with be out through the tunnel in the stadium for a down and back run on the Coastal trail for either 5 or 10K of running. The finish will be in the stadium in front of the timing shack.
Little Campbell Lake is located near the west end of Raspberry Road, at the entrance to Kincaid Park. Turn right onto the dirt road just after the large rock sign at the park entrance and follow it to the end. Race day, there will be NO PARKING for any participants after swim and bike gear drop off.
Basic logistics: Quick drop off of your swim, T-1 and bike gear at Little Campbell Lake. Drive to Kincaid stadium lot. Set up T-2 and run gear. Board a bus back to LCL for the start of the race. Swim, T-1 and start bike at the lake. Your swim & T-1 gear will be transported to the finish for you. Bike the course. T-2 and start run at the Kincaid Stadium lot. Finish your race. Have a ton of FUN!
