Blacksburg Classic
10 Mile & 5K

The Blacksburg Classic was called the Foxridge Classic when it was held in 1986 — in a snowstorm. Prior to that there was a Valentine's Day 10 miler sponsored by Conditioning Unlimited.

May 22, 2021 : We had a beautiful day for the Blacksburg Classic 10 Mile and 5K race. Great job to all the participants! Some blazing times on a challenging course. Thank you to all the volunteers from the New River Valley Literacy Club, Red Sun Farms, and the Virginia Tech Running Club. We would like to thank the Town of Blacksburg for allowing us to have the race and for police support, Virginia Tech for allowing us to run on campus for part of the course and for police coverage, and the VT Corporate Research Center for allowing us to host the event there and run through the corporate park. Additional thanks to Linda, Michael, Stephen, and Jack for helping with clean-up! Special shout out to Donna Akers for running her 34th Blacksburg Classic (out of the 36 years of the race) and she is only a few races shy of 800 career races! | Results

February 20, 2016: The 31st Annual Blacksburg Classic was rescheduled from February 13 because of cold temperatures. It was a beautiful day for running and we had some great performances! Moving the race back a week seemed to be a wise decision and made for spectacular conditions. We had over 300 runners participate! February 14, 2015: On a cold and very windy day 318 brave runners ran in the Blacksburg Classic's 30th edition. The first race of the 2015 RunAbout Race Series presented by Carilion Clinic drew 182 runners that finished the 10 miler. 136 runners finished the 5K and have one race finish towards earning the 2015 Race Series sweatshirt. Edward Dickenson, 51, won the 5K going away in 17:44. Kirsten Beaudry placed third overall and won the women's division in 19:16. In the ten Miler four men broke one hour. Patrick Woodford held off Max Werner winning in 57:09 to Max's 57:29. Quinn Thomas and Andrew Parkins also broke one hour. March 2, 2014 (rescheduled from Feruary 16 becausee of snow): The 29th Blacksburg Classic was held on a beautiful and at times windy day — a rare day this winter to have a day that you could wear shorts! 29 March 2008: The 2008 Blacksburg Classic started off cloudy, but by race time had terrifc running weather. The turnout was smaller than in past years as there were two races in town — both attracting hundreds. This past Saturday could have been the largest number of runners actually racing in Blacksburg history (over 600) when combining the two events.

24 February 2007: Waking up Sunday morning in an ice covered world, made me realize how fortunate we had been with the weather for the Blacksburg Classic the day before. It could hardly have been nicer. There was no wind to speak of and the sun, not hindered by any clouds, warmed all, making it feel warmer than the 50 degrees it became by mid afternoon. The great weather made many decide that running would be a fun thing to do, and race-day sign-ups were plentiful. The field of 5K and 10 Mile runners grew by nearly 150 race-day entrants; a total of 361 runners finished either the 5K or 10 Mile race. The fun run too saw quite a run-day addition, to about 30.
