  • 4:30pm-6:00pm – Early Packet Pick-Up & Registration: Located at Transition (bike racking available)
  • 5:00pm – Breakaway Athletics Coaching Swim Clinic with Suzan Ballmer of Breakaway Athletics Coaching (pre-registration required)
  • 5:30pm-7:30pm – Summit Social:  Attendees will take the Cannon Mt Aerial Tramway to the summit of Cannon Mountain and be treated to a beer from Woodstock Brewery, race friendly appetizers, and of course a beautiful sunset across the White Mountains.
    -Race Q&A: get all those pre-race questions answered by the White Mountains Triathlon race director.

  • 8:30am – Olympic Triathlon Start
  • 9:35am – Mandatory Race Meeting at beach for ALL Sprint athletes on the beach.
  • 9:45am – Sprint Triathlon Start
  • 11:00am – Post-Race beach BBQ at finish line at Echo Lake Beach
  • 12:00pm – Awards Ceremony for Olympic & Sprint at Echo Lake Beach
  • 1:00pm – Awards Ceremony for Half at Echo Lake Beach

Course Maps

Cannon Mountain and Franconia State Park plays host to the White Mountains Triathlon.

Friday’s early bib pick up is at Transition located at the parking lot for Echo Lake Beach.

The pristine Echo Lake is the swim venue, Transition is in the Echo Lake parking lot and the finish back beach from at Echo Lake.  Parking is conveniently located in the main Cannon Mountain Parking area.

All White Mountains Triathlon Festival races swim within the beautiful Echo Lake, starting at the beach along the base of Cannon Mountain.

Sprint (.25mi): One .25 mile loop in pristine Echo Lake.


Olympic (1500 meters): Two times a 750m rectangle. Olympic Distance is two loops around the intermediate marked yellow buoys.


Half (1.2 miles):  Two times along a 6/10 mile rectangle for the half. Half Distance is swim course is marked by two loops around the large orange buoys.

Wetsuits:  Due to water temperatures typically in the low 60’s in June, wetsuits will be MANDATORY for all races. Wetsuits may be sleeved or sleeveless.

Please Note:  Olympic and Half swimmers will not exit the water between their first and second loops. All athletes will complete their first loop and stay in the water to begin their second.

Sprint (13.2 mi):  The Sprint ride begins with a quick descent along Rt. 18 until a left turn onto Kerr Rd. and continues onto Wells Rd. This mountain road descends to Rt 116, where athletes will turn right back towards the center of Franconia. At the center of town the route turns right, back onto Rt 18 for 2 miles before a left onto Rt. 141. This is where the course starts climbing for the King of the Mountain section after which riders will take a right on Rt. 3 and continue on the paved bike path back to Rt 18.

Aid Stations: At just 13 miles, there will be no aid stations on the Sprint course, please plan to be self sufficient.

King of the Mountains Challenge: Our iconic KOM challenge begins at Mile 8.5 on the climb up Rt 141 / Butterhill Rd and finishes just mile later.

Olympic (40k): – The Olympic ride begins with a 3 mile descent of 10% along Rt. 18 all the way in to Franconia Village. New this year, athletes then turn left onto Rt 116 and weave through an awesome section through the beautiful White Mountains. After almost 8 miles, riders turn around and head back towards Franconia. At Mile 18 in the center of Franconia the course turns right onto Rt 18. After 2 miles, athletes turn left onto Rt 141 for our famous King of the Mountain section.  The course finishes with a turn onto Rt. 3 and brings you back to Cannon and the transition area via a beautiful, paved bike path for the final 2 miles.

Aid Stations: Aid can be found at miles 8 and 15. Water and Gatorade bottle exchange will be available.

King of the Mountains Challenge: Our iconic KOM challenge begins at Mile 20 on the climb up Rt 141 / Butterhill Rd and finishes a mile later.

Half (56 miles):  – The Half ride begins with a 3 mile descent of 10% along Rt. 18 all the way in to Franconia Village. New this year, athletes then turn left onto Rt 116 and weave through an awesome section through the beautiful White Mountains. At the junction of Rt 116 and Rt 112, athletes turn right on Rt 112 and head out along the beautiful Wild Ammonoosuc River for the next 6 miles. The course turns left on French Pond Rd followed by another left on Benton Rd before returning to Rt 116. The next 7 miles wind through rural Haverhill, NH before returning to Rt 112. Athletes will take a right onto Rt 112 and follow that for 4 miles before turning around just before the Wildwood National Forest Campground. The course then turns right onto Rt 116 for a return to Franconia. At Mile 49, in the center of Franconia the course turns right onto Rt 18. After 2 miles, athletes turn left onto Rt 141 for our famous King of the Mountain section. The course finishes with a turn onto Rt. 3 and brings you back to Cannon and the transition area via a beautiful, paved bike path for the final 2 miles.

Run Course: All three White Mountain Triathlon run courses use the beautiful, paved recreation trails of Franconia Notch State Park. The series of paths weave and wind through the pristine terrain, affording athletes some of the best views in the Whites! Landmarks such as the Cannon Mountain Tramway and Echo Lake are points of interest along your route. All runs finish beach side back at Echo Lake Beach for a post race party and celebration.

Event Details, Rules, & FAQ’s

Packet Pick-Up: Available Friday evening and on race morning. Please refer to the athlete guide and schedule for times and locations. To pick up your packet, per USAT guidelines you must present a picture ID, and if a USAT Annual Member, your membership card. Packets may not be picked up for any other competitor, and may be claimed by the athlete only.

Relay Team Packets: All relay team materials will be included in ONE team packet. The packet may be picked up by any team member, provided they have Photo ID.

Parking:
Athletes – All parking for athletes will be at the Cannon Mountain Ski lots off of Exit 34C. Located just past the triathlon venue on Rt 18, these lots allow easy access to the event for all participants. Exit 34C will close at 9:30am to ensure safety for our competing athletes, all participants must be on venue prior to 9:00am. Once Exit 34C / Rt. 18 closes at 9:30am, vehicles will not be permitted to leave these lots until the roads reopen at the completion of the bicycle race. 

SpectatorsAll spectator parking will be located on the backside of the event venue and Echo Lake, which can be reached by taking Exit 34B (Tramway Exit). Vehicles will pass through the Tramway lots, past Franconia Notch State Park Headquarters, and continue along a dirt road to access the backside of the event venue. Please follow the Triathlon Event parking signs and our awesome volunteers upon arrival. This parking option remains open throughout the event, whereas the athlete parking lot closes at 9:30am and will not allow vehicles to leave until later in the day.

Pets – Can I bring my furry friend?: While we are animal lovers, pets are not allowed in Franconia Notch State Park or at the White Mountains Triathlon for safety reasons.

USAT Membership: This is a USAT (USA Triathlon) sanctioned event, thus requiring every participant to hold either an annual membership or a one day USAT license. Athletes who cannot provide proof of active annual membership will be required to purchase a one day license.

Rules and Guidelines: As a USAT sanctioned event, each event within the White Mountain Triathlon festival will adhere to USAT Rules and Guidelines. Please see below for USAT resources and literature:

Transition Area: Opens at 5:30 am on race morning, and will close 20 minutes prior to the start of each respective race. Bike frame number must be applied to enter the TA. Transition will open for athletes to collect gear and bicycles after the last athlete has finished the bike portion of each event.

Competition Category: As a USAT sanctioned event, results will be submitted to USA Triathlon and all individual finishers will be ranked within their competition category nationally. All individual athletes will be required to chose one of the following categories to compete within. Swim waves will be compiled so that like category athletes compete directly with one another. Athletes who change swim wave will have their competition category updated accordingly.
Elite – Elite athletes start and wave 1 and will only be eligible for overall awards
Age Group – All athletes wishing to race against their same-age and gender participants. This category will make up the bulk of participants.
Clydesdale – Men 220+ lbs
Athena – Women 165+ lbs
Novice – For athletes more comfortable starting in the final swim wave. Novice athletes are not eligible for age group awards.

State Championship: The CRAFT White Mountains Triathlon is the proud host of the USAT NH State Triathlon Championships. This Event serves as a qualifier for the Olympic-distance and Sprint Age Group National Championships. The qualifying standards are posted at www.usatriathlon.org.

Wetsuits: Water temperature is typically in the low 60’s in June, wetsuits are MANDATORY for all races. Wetsuits may be full length or sleeveless.

Bike Support: Our friends at Littleton Bike & Fitness will be at transition to help with any prep work, but you’ll need to be prepared and equipped to deal with flats as there will not be bike course support en route.

Bike Aid Stations: Two aid stations with Gatorade and water bottle exchange will be strategically located on the bike course.

Run Aid Stations: Aid stations will be provided with Gatorade, water, UnTapped energy gels, and bananas on the run course.

Course Cut-Off Times: It’s our desire to permit adequate time for triathletes to finish our race. That said, while we haven’t imposed a hard and fast cut-off policy, the bike component of all distances must be completed by 1:00pm to comply with our NH State Parks permit.

Finish Area: The finish venue is beachside at Echo Lake. The backdrop for finish line photos is awesome and post race festivities with food will take place alongside the finish, so there will be plenty of action and a great environment.

Post-Race Food: The post-race BBQ is slated to be underway by 11:00AM.  Athletes will be admitted with their “Food” tear off tag from their bib number. Additional tickets for athletes, friends, and family will be available for sale ($20) during online registration and on-site. Additional food tickets purchased during registration will be included in athlete packets.

Post-Race Beer: Enjoy a post-race beer provided by our friends at Woodstock Inn & Brewery at Echo Lake Beach.

Results: All results will be displayed live at the Millennium Running timing trailer adjacent to the finish line. Live online results will be published exclusively on MillenniumRunning.com.

Race Photos: Millennium Running is happy to provide FREE digital race photos from this event. Photos will be posted online 3-4 business days following the event.

Finisher Video: Finishers of the event will receive a link to their finisher video. The link will be emailed 1-2 business days following the event.

Spectators: Bring your friends and family to cheer you and your fellow athletes on! We love spectators and welcome them on venue to share in your White Mountains Triathlon experience. Suggested spectator viewing areas include the Echo Lake Beach for the swim and finish line as well as transition. Bicycle course spectating is not encouraged due to road closures and inability to access the event venue once closures begin.

Can I swap race distances?: Should you wish to transfer to another race distance, begin HERE by editing your entry. After triggering your edit entry link via email, please select “Change Category” button at the top of your entry. From there, you will complete and check out with a new registration and your existing entry will be removed. Be sure to complete and finish the check out of your new registration to finalize your transfer. Race distance swaps can be completed online until the Wednesday of race week, after that any changes to registrations must be made on-site at the Questions tent.
