Penns Valley Triathlon
Millheim, PA
Centre County
Aug 3, 2024 - Saturday
sprint, supersprint triathlon
  • Details from event's RunSignUp.com listing:

    Nestled in the geographic center of the Keystone, our Penns Valley area makes the perfect backdrop for your early to mid-season sprint triathlon or aqua-bike. This event helps to raise funds for, and awareness of, the Millheim Pool (and it's programs): a non-profit organization dedicated to serving rural central PA. Outstanding opportunity for first time triathletes or veterans looking for a solid course in a beautiful setting with a supportive vibe and outstanding volunteers.

    Our venue offers three distance options for racers 14 years and older:
    1.) a standard Sprint Distance triathlon (about 18 miles total);

    2.) a Super Sprint Distance triathlon (about 10 miles total);

    3.) an Aqua-Bike (swim & bike, no run, about 15.5 miles total).

    Featuring a 300 yard pool swim, a 15+ mile bike course meandering along Penns Creek and punctuated by a few moderately challenging hill climbs, the event wraps up with a mostly flat, out and back 5K run.

    The Aqua-Bike eliminates the run, while the Super Sprint Triathlon cuts all three disciplines in about half.

    The Sprint Distance can be waged solo or as a (2) or (3) person team. The Super Sprint is a solo event. The Aqua-Bike is a solo event.

    Awards are presented after all participants have crossed the finish line: top male and female finishers; top three finishers in each 5 year age category; and the top three 2 and 3 person teams.

    Participants receive water, post race refreshments, and the first 120 registrants will receive a useful and durable, flame-resistant, high-heat tolerant, back-country-worthy 16oz SiliPint featuring this year's Penns Valley Triathlon logo.

    With the exception of your chip timing, through Falcon Race Timing, all the proceeds from this race go directly to our community's pool where youth can learn to swim or learn to compete. We volunteers stage this race so you can log a rewarding day, and together we keep a valuable resource up and running. Thank you in advance for supporting our pool!

    For the Full Sprint, Aqua-Bike, and Full Sprint Relays:
    **It is IMPERATIVE that you enter an accurate 300 yard swim time without flip turns when you register. Athletes will be disqualified in the pool if it is obvious that a faster seed time was entered than they're actually able to swim. Register with an accurate 300 yard, no flip turn seed time. As we near the event, contact the race director before July 30 if you need to update your swim time for any reason.

    The race options at this event are open to participants 14 years and older.
    **Participants age 13 and Under will require adult signature of waiver AND the youth athlete must be accompanied on the road (bike & run) courses at all times by an adult also registered for the event.**

    Online registration closes Tuesday, July 30 at midnight.

The deep area of the pool is 5' and the shallow end is 3'. Warm up starts at 6:30 AM.

    TRANSITION:  The transition area is a grass area adjacent to the pool. Bikes are racked across a foot bridge in a first come–first racked fashion the morning of the race. The transition area opens to participants at 6:00 AM.

    BIKE:  The bike course is 15.+ miles of rolling hills. The bike course is on open roads and cyclists must yield to traffic. Helmet is required. You will not race without a bike helmet. No earbuds.

    RUN:  The run is a mostly flat out and back route with a short incline toward the beginning of this leg. There will be a water station at approximately the half way mark. The run course is on open roads and runners must pay attention to traffic.

    Please note: This is a NON REFUNDABLE EVENT.

    DIRECTIONS TO THE PARK: The Millheim Pool at the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Memorial Park is located just off Park Road in Millheim, PA. From the intersection of Routes 45 and 445 (aka North Street) in downtown Millheim (zip 16854) head EAST on Route 45 until you cross the bridge. Park Road is the first LEFT after the bridge. Follow Park Road until you see the park entrance on your left.

For the love of all that is good and moisture wicking...
